Tom Kemp and Leanna Shaberly, of Tontogany, keep an eye out for birds during the 8th annual Christmas Bird Count. The two were at the Slippery Elm Trail Cricket Frog Cove area documenting birds. Fourteen volunteers spent the entire day throughout Wood County making ID’s on 67 different species of birds. The rarest bird found was a Snowy Owl and the most abundant bird was the European Starling with over 20,000 seen yesterday. The count dates back to the 1900’s and this count is part of 2,500 counts that take place all over North America. (Photos: J.D. Pooley/Sentinel-Tribune) SEE MORE |
